Recommended Skill Level

Rising Sun`s Cat ski operation takes place in uncontrolled backcountry terrain and is best suited to advanced and expert skiers / riders. While we do have some intermediate warm up terrain, the bulk of our cat ski area consists of steep, gladed powder skiing.

Skiers and riders should be confident skiing through trees, steep slopes and negotiating variable snow conditions to get the most out of the day.

Please note that our guides will select terrain best suited to the group but this can be difficult if there is wide range of skill levels. In these cases, our guides will find some terrain for weaker skiers and riders but in general we will work to cater to the stronger members of the group.

At times, this may mean that weaker skiers and riders will be asked to sit out for some runs if the guide deems that they are not sufficiently competent to safely ski/ride the run.

If you are uncertain about your ability level, please contact us for more information and to discuss if our cat ski terrain is suitable to you. Please note that there are 2 other cat ski operations in the Niseko area that are better suited to intermediate skiers and riders.

Please also note that while we have excellent terrain, the area is small and we generally recommend booking 1 day with us as you will be able to see most of our zone in a single day. Multiple day bookings are of course accepted and this will help protect against the potential of a weather cancellation. If booking multiple days, we recommend spreading those days out over your holiday.

  • Avalanche safety equipment
  • Lunch, water, snacks
Please Bring:
  • Ski / snowboard equipment
  • Regular winter outerwear
  • Spare goggles (if you have some)
  • Extra layer

There is limited room in the cat for extra gear so please try not to overpack. We can however leave equipment at the cat base so if you`re not sure, bring it. Additional pre-trip information will be sent at the time of booking.

Skiing and snowboarding are weather related sports and unfortunately, we are not able to control the weather. We absolutely understand that you are paying a premium to ski/ride in premium conditions and will cancel your trip if conditions are not up to our high standards. Fortunately, Hokkaido consistently delivers amazing snow conditions allowing us to operate on most days but if we are forced to cancel please see below for details of our cancellation procedure:

  •  As soon as we make the decision to cancel, we will notify you. This typically happens between noon and 6pm the day before your trip.
  • On occasions that our terrain requires a reset and we are expecting/hoping for significant overnight snowfall we will advise you of the situation the day before your trip and warn you that if we do not receive enough overnight snow we may cancel your tour in the morning.
  • If we are forced to cancel your trip, we will make every effort to reschedule your group to another day after conditions have improved. Please note that we have a limited daily capacity in our cats so if we are forced to cancel your cat ski day, we may not have space on subsequent days.
  • If we are unable to reschedule your group (either due to our capacity or because you are unavailable on subsequent days) then you will be entitled to a full refund less any transaction fees associated with processing the refund.
  • Please respect our knowledge of our terrain and the decision we arrive at.
  • Your enjoyment of the day and personal safety are our highest priorities.

Weather and snow conditions permitting, our operating season is from Jan. 1st through to the end of February.

We offer a mix of private and public CAT days each week. Please click the booking links below to see availability for each program.
